Privacy Policy

Last updated September 3, 2026. We built this tool around one rule for ourselves: no fabricated numbers, no hidden incentives: and that same instinct applies to how we handle your data: collect only what the tool actually needs, say plainly what happens to it, and never sell it.

What we collect, and why

ZIP code, move-in date, and home details (home type, square footage, floor level, HVAC, comfort preference, work-from-home). If you use the "quick home profile" option, these are used entirely in your browser to estimate your monthly usage: they're never sent to our servers at all.

Uploaded electricity bills. If you use the "upload a bill" option instead, the file is sent once to our server, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API to read the usage number printed on it. We don't store the file or its contents ourselves: the request happens, the number comes back, and that's it. Anthropic's handling of that request is governed by Anthropic's own API terms and privacy policy (anthropic.com/legal/privacy), not by us.

Bot protection on bill uploads. Because reading an uploaded bill calls a paid API, that upload step is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, a free tool that confirms a visitor is a real person without the "click every traffic light" puzzles. It runs invisibly in the background and doesn't build a tracking profile of you. See Cloudflare's own Turnstile Privacy Policy for how Cloudflare itself handles that check.

A usage counter. Each time someone completes the tool and gets a real recommendation, we increment a single stored number (visible on the homepage as "N Texans helped so far"). It's just an integer: no IP address, device ID, or identifier is attached to it.

Feedback you choose to submit. The "Feedback" button lets you leave a thumbs up/down, an optional note, and an optional email if you want a reply. If you don't enter an email, we have no way to identify who submitted it. What you submit is stored in our Cloudflare KV database so we can actually read it and improve the tool. The message and optional email are also sent, at the moment you submit, to a private Discord channel our team uses to get real-time alerts about new feedback: Discord is acting purely as our internal notification tool here (a service provider processing this on our behalf), not as a separate recipient we're sharing your data with for its own purposes. We don't sell this data, and we don't use it for advertising or marketing to you or anyone else.

Rate-protection reminders (optional). On the results screen, or on our standalone free renewal-reminder page, you can choose to leave an email and/or phone number, service ZIP code, provider, plan details, and either a contract length or the exact contract end date so we'll check the market and reach out before your plan's contract ends, instead of you having to remember on your own. If you opt in, we store that contact info along with your ZIP code, estimated usage, and the provider/plan you were looking at: that's what lets us send a pre-filled comparison instead of asking you to start over. We only use this to send that reminder (an initial one roughly 45 days before your contract ends, and a follow-up around 14 days out if you haven't acted). We don't sell it, and we don't use it for unrelated marketing. Every reminder email includes a one-click unsubscribe link that immediately stops future reminders for that plan. Text message reminders aren't live yet even if you left a phone number: until they are, only email is used.

Helpful email updates (optional and separate). Some pages offer a newsletter signup for practical help with electricity, internet, insurance, and moving. If you choose to submit that form, we store your email address, the page and topic where you signed up, the form placement, and any campaign tags in the link that brought you to the site. If a Texas ZIP code is already present in the page URL or form, we may store that too so later information can be more locally useful. We use Resend to send the confirmation email, maintain the confirmed marketing contact list, and deliver future email updates. A signup remains pending until the person clicks the confirmation link, and every marketing email provides an unsubscribe option. Signing up for a rate-protection or bill reminder does not sign you up for these marketing emails. The two choices use separate consent language and separate records.

Business connectivity quote requests. If you ask us to research business internet or related services, we collect the business and contact information you submit, the exact service address (including a suite or unit when applicable), requested services, desired speed or connection type, timing, current or preferred provider information, and your notes. We use this information to review address-level availability, contact you about the request, and, when needed, share the request with authorized business-service advisors or carriers that can help quote or fulfill it. Submitting this form does not enroll you in a service or subscribe you to marketing email. Do not submit Social Security numbers, payment-card details, or account passwords.

Analytics. We use Google Analytics (GA4) to see aggregate traffic, how far people scroll, get through the tool (for example, whether the form gets started, whether a bill gets uploaded, whether results get shown, whether someone opens the embedded marketplace, and whether an email signup form is viewed, dismissed, submitted, or completed). We do not send an email address, phone number, full service address, bill contents, or other form-entered personal information to GA4. This is standard web analytics, not a profile built around any one visitor. Google's own privacy policy governs how GA4 processes that data on its end.

Advertising measurement on our Real Rates landing page. We use the Meta Pixel on /real-rates to measure visits from Facebook and Instagram ads and whether a visitor launches the electricity marketplace. Meta may receive browser and device information, IP address, referring and landing-page information, and cookie or similar identifiers under Meta's Privacy Policy. We do not send Meta the ZIP code entered on the page, a name, email address, phone number, street address, bill contents, plan selection, or information entered inside the PowerHQ marketplace. To prevent a ZIP in a shared link from becoming landing-page data, the Meta Pixel does not load when the landing-page URL contains a ZIP parameter. It also does not load when the browser signals Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track. A marketplace-launch event is an advertising measurement signal only; it does not mean that someone enrolled.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell your data to anyone, for any reason.
  • We don't rank or recommend providers based on who pays us: every recommendation is generated from real plan and pricing data, not sponsorship.
  • We don't keep your uploaded bill images or PDFs after we've read the usage number off them.
  • We don't require an account, a password, or any personal identifier to use the core tool.

Enrolling with a provider

Our electricity marketplace is embedded on our site and is provided by PowerHQ. When you use it, the information you enter inside that marketplace is sent directly to PowerHQ and the applicable electricity provider so they can confirm service availability and complete enrollment. I Moved to Texas does not receive payment information or sensitive enrollment credentials entered inside the embedded marketplace. PowerHQ's and the selected provider's privacy policies and terms govern their handling of that information.

Requesting an insurance quote

Our insurance guides may link to a partner's quote experience. Those links are labeled as sponsored, and I Moved to Texas may receive compensation when someone requests a quote or purchases through them. When you follow one, the partner, not I Moved to Texas, collects the information needed for the quote and application. We use a non-personal campaign label in the link and a GA4 click event to understand which guide and button were used; we do not put your name, email, pet medical information, address, or quote answers into that analytics event. The partner's privacy policy and terms govern the information entered in its quote flow.

Cookies

Google Analytics may set cookies in your browser to distinguish sessions and visits, per Google's own implementation. The Meta Pixel on our Real Rates landing page may use cookies or similar browser storage for advertising measurement, depending on your browser, Meta settings, and privacy controls. We also use browser local storage, not an advertising cookie, to remember when you dismiss or complete an email-signup prompt so we do not keep showing it to you. You can block or clear cookies and local storage through your browser's own settings at any time.

Children's privacy

This tool is meant for adults shopping for their own household electricity service and isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Data retention and requesting deletion

The usage counter is an aggregate number with nothing to delete on an individual level. We haven't established a fixed retention period for feedback submissions, so we won't claim one here: if you left an email address with a feedback submission and want it removed, reach out through the Feedback button on the site (or the Contact page) and we'll delete the stored KV entry. If your submission was also posted to our internal Discord channel before your request, tell us and we'll remove that message too: deleting the stored entry doesn't automatically erase a notification that already went out.

If you opted into rate-protection reminders, clicking the unsubscribe link in any reminder email stops future reminders immediately. To have the underlying record deleted entirely rather than just marked unsubscribed, reach out through the Feedback button or the Contact page.

Marketing emails use their own unsubscribe control. Unsubscribing from marketing emails does not cancel a bill reminder, and canceling a bill reminder does not add you to or remove you from the marketing list. To request complete deletion of a marketing-subscriber record, contact us through the Feedback button or the Contact page.

Changes to this policy

If what we collect or how we use it changes in any meaningful way, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above.

Contact

The fastest way to reach us is the Feedback button available on the site: every submission is read.
